For the fifth consecutive year\, our members will be operating a special food stall\, bringing the rich culinary heritage of Sri Lanka straight to our community.\nThis year’s campaign features a truly special highlight: it is being proudly led by our female Sri Lankan veterans and the wives of our veterans\, who are bringing their incredible dedication and expertise to the forefront of this event.\nEvent Details:\n\nDate: 11 October 2026 from 9 am to 4 pm\nLocation: Rockriver Park\, Seventeen Mile Rocks QLD 4073\n\nOur stall will feature an extensive array of authentic Sri Lankan sweets and treats\, meticulously prepared to give you a true taste of home. Come and indulge in traditional delicacies\, including:\n\nKavum varieties: Konda Kavum\, Mun Kavum\, and Naarang Kavum\nFestive favourites: Kokis\, Aasmi\, and Wali Thalapa\nClassic treats: Halapa\, Pani Appa\, Lavariya\, and Udu Walalu\n\nIn addition to these traditional sweets\, we will be serving a variety of popular Sri Lankan short eats\, baked goods\, and refreshing beverages\, including Wade\, Fish Buns\, Chocolate Cake\, Cupcakes\, and our crowd-favourite Ice Coffee.\nWhether you are looking to revisit fond memories of home or experience the vibrant flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time\, our stall has something for everyone.\nWe warmly invite all our members\, families\, friends\, sponsors\, well-wishers\, and the general public to join us\, meet our incredible team\, and support the association. DESCRIPTION:“A Day of Remembrance\, Unity\, and Deep Emotion” \nOn 25 April 2026\, the Brookfield Showgrounds once again became a place of profound\nremembrance as the community gathered to honour ANZAC Day — a day etched into the\nheart of Australia and New Zealand. From the early hours of the morning\, the grounds filled\nwith veterans\, serving personnel\, families\, young people\, and dignitaries\, all united by a\nshared purpose\, to remember the courage\, sacrifice\, and unwavering spirit of the ANZACs.\nThe dawn service set a solemn tone\, its silence broken only by the soft rustle of flags and\nthe quiet reflection of those who stood shoulder to shoulder in the cool morning air. As the\nsun rose\, the parade commenced\, bringing together exservice organisations from across\nQueensland. Among them marched the Sri Lanka ExServicemen’s Association (Queensland\nBranch)\, proudly carrying their colours and honouring not only the ANZACs but also the\nbrave men and women who served across the Commonwealth. \nThis year’s march carried a particularly emotional weight. As our contingent made its way\ntoward the grounds\, applause rippled through the crowd — a heartfelt gesture of gratitude\nthat resonated deeply with every marcher. In one unforgettable moment\, a middleaged lady\nstood by the roadside\, tears streaming down her face as she clapped. Her emotion captured\nthe essence of ANZAC Day\, remembrance that lives not only in ceremony\, but in the hearts\nof everyday Australians. \nThe Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association was honoured to play a meaningful role in the\nofficial proceedings. Major General (Retired) Shyaman Kulathunge and Wing Commander\nNalin Wickremasinghe (Ex-SLAF)\, President of SLESA Queensland\, laid floral wreaths on\nbehalf of the association. Their tribute symbolised the enduring bonds between nations that\nfought side by side\, and the shared sacrifices that continue to unite us across generations.\nThis connection is rooted in history. During the First World War\, members of the Ceylon\nPlanters Rifle Corps — a volunteer regiment from then Ceylon — were attached to ANZAC\nunits during the Gallipoli campaign. Though small in number\, they endured the same\nunforgiving terrain\, the same hardships\, and the same losses. Their service remains a proud\nchapter in Sri Lanka’s military heritage and a reminder of the global unity forged in times of\nconflict. \nThroughout the day\, families enjoyed community activities\, live music\, and traditional ANZAC\nDay refreshments. Children listened to stories of bravery\, ensuring that the legacy of the\nANZACs continues to be passed down with respect and understanding. \nThe 2026 Brookfield ANZAC Day ceremony stood as a powerful testament to remembrance\,\nunity\, and shared history.
