Our Purpose

SLEXQ exists to honour and uphold the welfare of Sri Lankan ex-servicemen and ex-police personnel, as well as their families, who have courageously served our motherland. Our Association is built on the core values of remembrance, solidarity, and mutual support. We empower our members to continue their enduring camaraderie, foster positive connections with the wider Queensland and Australian community, and ensure that sacrifices made in the line of duty are never forgotten.

Our History

Established in response to the unique needs of Sri Lankan veterans migrating to or living in Queensland, SLEXQ has a proud history spanning over 10 years. Our Association began as a gathering of Sri Lankan former service personnel, united by shared experiences, commitment, and a desire to preserve the rich military and cultural traditions that shaped our lives.

Through years of dedicated volunteer work, SLEXQ has grown into a supportive community that celebrates milestones, commemorates significant memorial events such as ANZAC Day, and actively participates in Queensland’s multicultural fabric.

What We Do

Camaraderie & Support

We provide a platform where Sri Lankan veterans and police officers can share stories, offer guidance, and form lasting friendships.

Remembrance & Honour

SLEXQ actively organises and participates in commemorative events, including Queensland’s ANZAC Day ceremonies and cultural gatherings, to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

Community Bridge

We work to enhance understanding and cooperation between the Sri Lankan and Australian communities, championing multicultural harmony and supporting new arrivals as they settle in Queensland.

Heritage & Education

The Association is committed to preserving the legacy and military traditions of Sri Lankan service personnel, passing down values of honour and service to younger generations and the broader public.

Our Structure

SLEXQ is led by an elected committee comprised of ex-Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police representatives who together coordinate events, outreach, welfare activities, and community engagement initiatives. Leadership roles rotate to ensure fresh perspectives while upholding our founding principles of transparency, democracy, and inclusivity.

Membership

Membership is open to all ex-servicemen and ex-police personnel of Sri Lankan origin residing in Queensland, as well as their immediate families. We welcome anyone who shares our vision of camaraderie, respect, and service within the Sri Lankan-Australian veteran community.
